Challenge #2 - Let's Quirky Use Red OR Pink + Black AND White

Welcome to the February challenge here at Quirky Crafts!  Remember, all our challenges will begin on the first Sunday in the month and end on the 28th day of that month.  We will also publish a reminder on the third Sunday of each month.   We have a new theme this month:  Let's Quirky use Red OR Pink + black and white.  How easy is that?

This month, we have "The Cutting Cafe" as our fantastic sponsor and they generously supplied digis and .svg files to the DT.

They are generously providing the following prizes:

1st Prize:  3 sets from Cutting Cafe
2nd Prize:  2 sets from Cutting Cafe
3rd Prize:  1 set from Cutting Cafe

The images and .svg files kindly supplied to the Design Team by The Cutting Cafe are:

Here's some great inspiration from the team.

Marg using Wheelbarrow Deliveries

I decided to use the Wheelbarrow Deliveries as an Easter card project, which
has been made for a friend's young daughter, hence the pastel colours.
I coloured the digis using Harmony Alcohol Markers.  I cut away as
much of the white paper as I could and then stuck the image
to the pale green, spotty, card topper and stuck that to the
card base with foam tape.  The ribbons are both double-bowed and I also added a 3-layer flower
that was part of a packet that I brought from a local bargain shop that
sells mainly books & art stuff for all ages.

NanaConnie
using Wheelbarrow Deliveries
with hearts

I used the basic wheelbarrow, colored it with ProMarkers, then die cut it.  I fussy cut the hearts and added them to the wheelbarrow (since I don't have anything that uses .svg files.)   I also fussy cut and added the wheel which has a heart on it.  The black scalloped circle is also a die cut, as is the large heart with the leaves and flowers on it.  I love that these Cutting Cafe files can be used either with a machine or by fussy cutting!

Patacake
using Bendi Card Template

Using The Cutting Cafe's Bendi Card Templates made creating this card a breeze.  I've always wanted to try this type of card and now I have lots of differently styled cutting files/templates, all thanks to The Cutting Cafe.  I chose to use PINK with White and Black, and colored up a digi image from Ike's Art for a cute Mother's Day card.

                                                                           Tracy
                                                            using Wheelbarrow Deliveries
I have used Wheelbarrow Deliveries to make a mini easel.  I couldn't decide which delivery to pick for my wheelbarrow so I used 4 that suited the colour theme.  I have used Sakura pens to colour the image and mounted the strawberries and apples on some black card and 3D foam pads to create a stopper.

Cazzy's away on a much needed break and will join us when she returns in a few days!

To see who won the last challenge, see the previous post below this one.  Any crafty project is acceptable as usual.  Important: BEFORE you link up, please add a link to the Quirky Crafts Challenges blog (http://quirkycrafts.blogspot.com - the blog, not this post) to your post or you will not be able to enter.  When you have done this, you can go ahead and add a link to your blog post or your online photo gallery, SCS, etc., using the button or link below.  If you don't have a blog (or inlinkz will not accept your non-blog link), you can email your entry to us via the sidebar link. Good luck!

Winners of the January challenge - Let's Quirky Celebrate!

What a great start to 2016.  We had some lovely entries and a such lot of them. The requirement was to have the word celebrate, or celebration somewhere on your creation.  The 14 entries that were eligible to be in the top three were the ones who had the words "CELEBRATE" or "CELEBRATION" on them somewhere that we could see.   Unfortunately, the others had to be disallowed or it would not be fair to the ones who followed the requirements.

Our sponsor for this challenge was the wonderful Stitchy Bear Digital Outlet, who have such a wide range of digital images and artists that we can always find something we love!

Didn't our new team do well, too, with some lovely examples for our first challenge together?

Sadly, Lynne is unable to continue at the moment, due to health reasons, and we are saying goodbye to her already.  Thank you for all you have done in your first month with us Lynne.  We hope you will come back to us when you are able.

Now for the important news that you all want to know, here are our top three who are all prize winners:

In first place with a stunning 1920's Art Deco style card is Yogi!

yogiemp.com/HP_cards/MiscChallenges/MiscChallenges2016/MCJan16_EaselQuill_ArtDecoFan_ECDCelebrate_LetTheBeauty.html

In second place with some crazy cats on her lovely shaker card is Rae Ann!

Congratulations, Rae Ann, you have won 3 digital images or sets from the ones used by the Quirky DT and listed on the challenge post.

In third place with a very pretty shaker card is Stempelomi!

Congratulations, Stempelomi, you have won 2 digital images or sets from the ones used by the Quirky DT and listed on the challenge post.

Finally we have a Runner Up, and that is Kevin with this beautiful card.

Congratulations, Kevin, we have a Special Runner Up badge just for you!

Please, can all of you contact me with your choices of digital images, and I will send your personalised winner's badges and arrange for you to get your prizes.  We would love you all to be guest designers in our March challenge if you are able.   Please let me know if you can join us.

Thank you to everyone who entered, and don't forget to check back at 6 pm today to find out about our new challenge!

Midway reminder for January Quirky Celebrate from Marg

Hiya peeps,

I have used the same image as my original post.  It's called
Tying The Knot by Stitchy Bear Designs
and is a lovely digi to colour.  I did mine using my
Harmony Permanent Alcohol Markers Pen Set
(and they are fabulous to use.) For a change I decided
to only colour part of the digi image,  I didn't colour the hands.

The base card is from my own stash (already cut to that design)
as is everything else: the wedding ribbon, flowers/ribbon bows, the
stickers used to spell out the word "Celebrate", and my already die
cut word "your," the backing papers, die cut using
Decorative Grande Ovals from Spellbinders
and my Grand Calibur.  I hope you like the card.

January midway reminder #1 2016 Let's Quirky Celebrate

Hi everyone, I'm here to remind you to play along with our January challenge, I'm only just getting used to calling the challenge by the month now that we have gone monthly, it is easier than numbers!

Here is your reminder about the challenge and our sponsor.

My challenge is called Let's Quirky Celebrate, and I want to see you play along with projects that include the word Celebrate or Celebration, and it can be any kind of celebration you like, and any kind of hand made project.

We are sponsored by the wonderful Stitchy Bear Digital Stamps who are providing all three prizes to our winners.

Who are generously providing the following prizes:

1st prize of 3 images of choice from the whole of the store
2nd prize Any 3 of the images used by the DT
3rd prize any 2 of the DT´s chosen imagesB - listed below

The images kindly supplied to the Design Team by Stitchy Bear are:

CraftyGirl Creations

BBKakes

Floppy Latte Designs

Stitchy Stamps

My Heart Pieces

Beary Dust

Now let's look at the wonderful projects from the team, I'm sure they will inspire you to play along.

using sponsor image "Pretty in Pink"
to make a card that celebrates Love.

The image is colored using ProMarkers and chalk, then die cut and framed.  I used burgundy CS to back the die cut frame, embossed the background, and added two different ribbons for embellishment.  The bow is a single layer, five-loop bow done with 1/8 inch ribbon.

Hi it's Lynne here with my midway card to share with you using Digi Blessings Sewing Mends the Soul. My first love is sewing and I always love to create with things that are related to sewing - thus, this adorable bear doing a cross-stitch gift to celebrate someone's birthday with the word, "celebrate" faux stitched on the heart!!! I had a lot of fun adding buttons, charm, and pearls along with a ribbon.

Creative juices were running wild and perhaps quirky when I found this cupcake paper and just knew that I had the purrfect sentiment to use on the inside which I wanted to share with you AND of course, the Stickles Fairy along with Cupcake Border Punch came into play. Hope you stop by and visit me to learn all the fun elements that I used making this special birthday card.

Hey crafters! Pat here reminding you to share your projects and cards with us for the January challenge. The theme is Celebrate! and I got to play with this lovely digi image from our sponsor, Stitchy Bear. It's called "Lake Winter." I lightly colored over the entire image with Copic BG10, then used a toothbrush and white acrylic paint to add more snow to the scene. I framed it all with assorted shades of teal. I snagged a package of lacy paper doilies from my local thrift store today and used one to make my image pop on my easel card.

I have used Wonderland Cake from Stitchy Bear Stamps.  It is coloured with Wink of Stella pens and Graph It alcohol markers. I printed the image four times and decoupaged it for the main focal point and cut elements from the other two (which I had also flipped to give it a even quirkier look) as embellishments. The Happy Birthday paper is from my stash.  The sentiment is a freebie stamp which I have stamped on to pattern paper in Rich Cocoa Momento ink and cut out using a Stampin' Up decorative punch.

I used this really cute Baby by Beary Dust, and although I am a little late for this post I am well ahead for my new Granddaughter's 1st Birthday! It has to be a first for me. The word celebrate appears on the stamped ribbon and background definitions. I am celebrating having a Granddaughter, and her birthday in advance! More details on my blog.

 Marg will be along later.

Challenge #1 2016 Let's Quirky Celebrate.

Welcome back to Quirky Crafts and our first monthly challenge. All challenges will begin on the first Sunday in the month and end on the 28th day of that month. We will also publish a reminder on the third Sunday of each month.

We have a lot to celebrate, continuing the Quirky challenges (and it was touch and go at the end of last year), a brand new Quirky team, a couple of new sponsors and the beginning of 2016 - Happy New Year to you all.

Therefore my challenge is called Let's Quirky Celebrate, and I want to see you play along with projects that include the word Celebrate or Celebration, and it can be any kind of celebration you like, and any kind of hand made project.

We are sponsored by the wonderful Stitchy Bear Digital Stamps who are providing all three prizes to our winners.

Who are generously providing the following prizes:

1st prize of 3 images of choice from the whole of the store
2nd prize Any 3 of the images used by the DT

Here is some inspiration from our talented Design Team:

Cici
Our first Guest Designer of 2016

Cicci used Please Drink Responsibly on her fun card and said:
"My Name is Cecilia Gunnarsson but everyone calls me Cicci..
I live in Sweden with my 3 boys and a dog. When I dont colour :0)
 I work as a guitarteacher!
Im happy to be  at this Great challenge quirky Crafts Challenge!

HUGS Cicci Vid Pennan"

Pat

Pat using BBCakes Birthday Boy 1 to celebrate a birthday of course!

NanaConnie

I used a wonderful image from Stitchy Bear called "Lake Winter."   The background paper is made with a new set of watercolors.  Another "new" thing I'm celebrating is the Bow-It-All that Santa brought me and that double-color bow is the first one I tied with it!

Tracy

I tried to fit my card to the Celebration theme but also make it generic so it could be used for most occasions.  I have made an easel card using Wine Barrel from Stitchy Bear which I have coloured using alcohol markers.  I added clear glaze pen to the wine bottles and used Wink of Stella Violet for the glass of wine.  The congratulations sentiment is fixed to the ribbon with brads and I have adhered this to the card with foam tape to create the stopper. I have used a freebie Time to Celebrate stamp on the corner.

Made using Tying The Knot digi image from
Stitchy Bear Digi Stamps and celebrating marriage.

Lynne

Sorry, my post was a bit late as I had Shingles in and around my eye and my eyesight was minimal. With that being said . . .
I'm a big fan of anything Alice in Wonderland and what a way to celebrate almost anything - I used Crafty Girl Creations Wonderland Cake with the Cheshire Cat and his smile donning the Mad Hatter's Hat. This would be such  a fun birthday cake (P.S. Did I mention that my birthday is this month and I would like a cake "done in this style"?) and most definitely Alice in Wonderland with the "Quirky" theme!

Cazzy

Sorry I'm a little late, it has been an awful week for me! Anyway here I am at last, and I altered an empty chocolate box into a box frame and added lots of crafty bits round the BBK Craft Queen digi. I thought she was perfect to celebrate our new Quirky Team, new challenge format and all things crafty and new. I'm going to put the full details on my blog and the before photo.
Are you a craft Queen too?

Because we are now hosting challenges monthly our reminder will be in two weeks time. You have until the 28th of Jan to enter the challenge.

Any crafty project is acceptable as usual. Important: BEFORE you link up please add a link to the Quirky Crafts Challenges blog (http://quirkycrafts.blogspot.com - the blog not this post) to your post - or you will not be able to enter. When you have done this you can go ahead and add a link to your blog post or your online photo gallery, SCS etc. using the button or link below. If you do not have a blog (or inlinkz will not accept your non blog link) you can email your entry to us via the sidebar link. Good luck!

Welcome to the new Quirky Team!

We would like to say a big WELCOME to our new AWESOME new Quirky Team mates, and here they all are introducing themselves to you:

Hi, it's Lynne here from Pittsburgh, PA where I live with the love of my life, Bob, and our zoo which consists of a black lab, Princess, and 3 kitties - Patches, Chloe, and Sadie.
I've been crafting since what seems forever starting with sitting under a quilting frame threading needles for my grandmother's quilting ladies and then graduating to knitting, crocheting, sewing, machine embroidery, quilting, doll sculpting with the latest being paper crafting!
Paper crafting became a great alternative for quilting as it was cutting little pieces into big pieces into one cohesive project when I had shattered my left arm!!
My projects are basically for the loves of my life, my beautiful grandchildren ages 6 months to 11 years of age including 2 from my beautiful daughter (Lily age 4 and Adam age 2) and my 2 beautiful daughters from a previous marriage sharing with me their children (Luke age 6 months, Nick age 9 years, Zack age 11 whose mother is Jean and Sasha age 10 whose mother is Barbara).

I'm a Nana to 6 and great-Nana to 2; family is very important to me, second only to my love of God and church.  I've been crafting all my life and my interests include sewing, crocheting, painting, ceramics, short stories and poetry, plus creative cooking and baking.   Once I retired, I really discovered papercrafts, including scrapbooking and card making.  These days, making cards seems to have eclipsed all other creative pursuits because of the relatively immediate reward of seeing the completed project.  I love serving on Design Teams and playing in challenges.  I'm so excited about joining the Quirky Crafts team!

Hello, hola und Hallo! My name is Pat Martin, better known as Patacake. I joined the crafting world when I went to my first rubber stamp workshop. I was hooked, until I discovered all the fun and new supplies for scrapbooking. Once I unearthed the digital world of images, papers and elements, I’ve kept very busy. I am an eclectic artist.

I am married with two grown children, one still in college. The other has gifted me with six grandchildren and a daughter-in-law who shares my love of crafting. We live outside of Chicago (go Blackhawks!). The newest member of the family is a rescue dog, a Silkie Terrier named Wilson.
I belong to crafting groups on Yahoo and design for a few challenge blogs as well as the Outlawz.
I write for my own blog as well as monthly essays at the Path of Positivity. I've made my own YouTube tutorials, but they're pretty primitive. I enjoy a challenge, and card making is probably my go-to crafting activity amongst all my hobbies. As always, crafters, I have fun!

Hiya, my name is Margaret but I do prefer to be called Marg and I'm 54 years old. I have 2 daughters, the eldest is married & lives a few miles away. She's given me a fab son-in-law and two gorgeous grandsons. My youngest daughter is 18 and studying hard at college, in her 3rd year of Art & Design.
Ive been crafting for most of my life but my serious card making/papercraft & upcycling came into effect almost 6 years ago and I've not looked back. Art & Craft runs in the family so I grew up with being surrounded by knitting, sewing and drawing/painting. All of my elder siblings love to make/draw/sew etc (even my brother) and I love to create but I cant knit to save my life lol.

I am quite severely disabled but I craft to keep my hands and mind occupied and it works lol. I love digi stamps but I also like rubber stamps. I have no special artist that I prefer and I have no special style of design.I am honoured to be invited to join Cazzy and all the other DT members of this fabulous challenge blog.

Greetings, My name is Tracy and like a lot of crafters I have been creating from a very young age, I remember my first cross stitch and appliqué pieces at primary school. I started papercrafting about 15 years ago when I purchased my first stamping kit.  My crafting took a back seat whilst my hubby and I were running a pub in small village near Coventry, by this time I had accumulated quite a large amount of crafting goodies but with no time to craft it sat nestled away in boxes.

About a year or so later we moved to Somerset where I was inspired to get back into my paper crafting and stitching making all my own Yule and birthday cards.  After a year of living amongst the beautiful Mendip Hills and only 10 minutes from Glastonbury my husband's job saw us moving back to our home county of Suffolk.  This is really when my crafting became a passion, my stash grew to astronomical proportions and I started taking orders for cards and other bespoke items.  I never go anywhere without a notebook because you never know when inspiration will strike!

When I'm not crafting (or working) I enjoy taking walks with my husband and our Newfoundland dog, Fergus.  I also love writing (I have been published a few times), photography, baking, flower arranging (having won awards for both), reading, reviewing, blogging, sewing, camping and spiritual learning.

Have Fun - The Quirky Crafts Challenge Design Team.

Tuesday, 8 December 2015

Quirky thank you's and lots of news.

We have a lot of thanks to give out at the end of another Quirky Challenge year.

First of all Lyn and I would like to thank all of the Design Team members for their wonderful projects this year. We are sad that they all had to leave us, for various personal reasons, and we wish them all the best in the future.

We said goodbye to Gabriela a few weeks ago; really she said goodbye to us. We are saying goodbye to Monica, Doris  and Gabriela all at once - leaving just the two of us oldies!

This is the reason (apart from the fact I was ill in bed for most of the last two weeks) that you might not have got a comment on your entries, with a record number of fabulous entries and only the two of us - well it could take a while so maybe you will let us off this time round! Some people entered more than once, in some cases more than three times, of course those entries had to be deleted. If you get a comment on one of your entries, please accept it for all of them.

This is also why we are running a DT call, and the good news is we've actually had some good applicants  and three of them have joined the team so far - but we could do with a couple more, so if you would like to become part of our Quirky team please contact me and I will give you the details of what is involved.

Hot off the press: in 2016 Quirky challenges will be Monthly, starting on the first Sunday in each month and not 2 weekly, the reason for the change is because Lyn and I have a lot to deal with in our daily lives and it will take the pressure off quite a bit. It also means you might be more inclined to apply to join us! You might have seen this mentioned on our Facebook page.

We want to thank all of you Quirkettes for playing along with our Quirky challenges all year, without you there would be no challenge blog! We loved visiting your blogs and seeing your wonderful creations, and we hope to see many more in 2016.

We want to give a BIG thank you to all of our sponsors during 2015, they provided us with some great prizes and wonderful images to use too. Here are the sponsors, they have made our challenges special, thank you all:
